Description

Scrabble Score Tracker - Mechanical Sliding Point Counter for Board Games 🎲

A satisfying, no-app, no-paper score keeper built for Scrabble - and every other game where points matter.

🆕 Updated Version 2.0

This release includes several refinements based on real-world printing and user feedback, improving both reliability and overall user experience.

Improved End Cap System

The original press-fit end caps have been redesigned into top-inserting sliding plugs.

This completely eliminates the outward pressure that could slightly spread the track walls, preventing the main board from flexing over time. As a result, the plugs remain securely in place during normal use and are much less likely to loosen or fall out.

Better Slider Feel

The clearance between the slider carriage and the guide rails has been slightly reduced.

This results in a more pronounced tactile click, improved positioning accuracy, and a slightly firmer, more satisfying sliding action without affecting smooth movement.

Flush Inlaid Numbers

The printed numbers are now fully flush with the top surface of the board instead of protruding above it.

The inlays have also been embedded deeper into the model, increasing the bonding thickness to 4 printed layers (using a 0.4 mm nozzle and 0.2 mm layer height). This significantly improves adhesion and eliminates the occasional issue where small number inlays could become loose after printing.

The updated geometry also produces a cleaner, smoother top surface while making the number inserts considerably more durable.

Print Profile Improvements

Several small refinements have also been made to the print profile, including optimized settings for cleaner and more consistent number inlays, resulting in improved overall print quality.

The Idea

Keeping score on a scrap of paper during Scrabble is fine - until someone knocks over a drink, the pen runs dry, or you lose track of whose column is whose. This mechanical counter sits on the table, stays readable from across the board, and holds your score in place between turns. No phone, no notepad, no arguments about who wrote what.

How It Works

The board has three horizontal tracks with printed numbers running left to right:

🔼 Top row - hundreds (0, 100, 200 … 1000)

➡️ Middle row - tens (0, 10, 20 … 100)

🔽 Bottom row - units (0, 1, 2 … 9)

Each track has its own sliding pointer. Slide all three to the right positions, read the three rows together as a sum, and that's your score. The total range covers 0 to 1110 points, which is more than enough for any Scrabble game - or most other board games with running totals.

Set hundreds to 400 + tens to 60 + units to 7 → score reads 467

Adding points after each turn is just as simple: nudge whichever rows need updating and the new total is immediately visible.

The Click Mechanism 🔧

This is what makes the tracker genuinely pleasant to use. Inside each track there are small recesses spaced precisely at every number position. The slider carriage is built with two thin flexible wings that snap into these recesses as you move the pointer along. The result is a firm, tactile click at every single number - you feel it in your finger and hear it clearly.

Because of this, the pointers don't drift. They stay exactly where you leave them, even if the board gets nudged. Moving from one number to the next requires a deliberate push, which means accidental score changes are virtually impossible.

What's in the File (10 Parts Total)

PartQtyNotes
Main board1All three tracks with printed numbers
Slider carriage3Rides inside the track and contains the spring wings
Pointer cap3Press-fits onto the carriage pin - no glue required
Top-inserting end plug3Slides into the top opening of each track and securely retains the carriage

Everything is press-fit. The pointer cap clips firmly onto the carriage pin, while the redesigned top-inserting plugs securely retain each carriage without putting outward pressure on the track walls. If you prefer a permanent assembly - for example, as a gift - a single drop of super glue can be added at each joint.

Who It's For

Primarily designed around Scrabble, where individual turn scores quickly accumulate and a visible running total saves a lot of back-and-forth. The tracker also works well for any game that uses cumulative scoring - card games, dice games, educational activities, or anything else where you need a reliable mechanical score display. 🃏
