Description

I'm working on a mortar for an upcoming event and was looking at models for a taginn compatible chalk marker round to use, ideally whistling in flight.

All the models I could find are either only whistling rounds with no payload or meant to be fired directly at a hard target and break on impact.

That doesn't work with indirect fire, especially when the projectile has a very high chance to land in grass.

I've developped this projectile to split on impact even in grass, and during my testing found it almost perfectly reliable.

The whistle isn't the loudest but you can definitely hear the round coming down.

Version 2

All the parts have been redesigned to maximize the payload and improve the splitting reliability.

Base and pin :

  • PLA
  • 2 perimeters
  • 15% infill

Split head :

  • LW-PLA
  • 2 perimeters
  • 15% infill

The base should weigh around 6g, the pin 2g and each halves of the head around 6g.

You can then assemble both halves, retained by the pin and fill the head to the brim with flour.

The complete projectile should weigh 28-29g.

Once printed the projectile weighs around 22g, allowing you to put 6-8g of chalk/talcum powder/flour as your payload, I aim for a final weight of 28g but you can go a bit heavier. DO NOT FILL THE HEAD ENTIRELY OR IT WON'T SPLIT.
