Retraction Test (1.0 mm – 5.0 mm) for PLA, PETG, ABS

This project file is used to determine the optimal retraction distance for various filaments. The test is prepared so that you only need to select the corresponding material profile to start the print.

How the Test Works

The test cylinder continuously increases the retraction distance with increasing height.

  • Start Value: 1.0 mm (at the bottom of the model)
  • Increment: For each marked line on the side of the cylinder, the retraction increases by 0.1 mm.
  • End Value: 5.0 mm (at the top of the model)

This fine gradation allows for very precise determination of the point where stringing stops.

Procedure

  1. Select the appropriate profile for your chosen material (PLA, PETG or ABS).
  2. Start the print.
  3. Evaluate the result after printing: The optimal value is the lowest mark where no strings (stringing) are visible.

Evaluation

For example, if stringing stops exactly at the fifth mark above the 1 mm base, this corresponds to an optimal retraction distance of 1.0+(5×0.1)=1.5 mm.
