Bill of Materials
Description
This model is a remix of the original Printile design from Printables. I’ve added a missing locking groove to ensure the lens stays securely attached to your camera.
Turn a used disposable camera into a unique lens setup with this adapter. Pair it with your favourite Fujifilm film simulation to create beautifully nostalgic photos with a distinctive character.
Getting a disposable camera
Don’t have one? Try your local camera store; most likely, they have used disposables that have been developed and give them away for free.
Printing tips
- Recommended material: PETG (PLA also works)
- Use a dark filament for the best image results
Assembly Guide
Preparation & Safety
- Safety Warning: Disposable cameras contain a high-voltage capacitor for the flash. Even without a battery, it can deliver a painful shock. Use an insulated screwdriver to short the capacitor leads before disassembly.
- Materials Needed:
- One disposable camera lens (e.g., from Ilford or Kodak cameras).
- 3D printed parts from this page
- Hardware: Optional M2 screw for the focus stop.
Step 1: Disposable Camera Lens Extraction
- Open the camera shell and safely discharge the flash capacitor.
- Locate the plastic lens held by a retaining ring or screws.
- Pop the ring or unscrew it to remove the single plastic lens element.
Step 2: Lens Installation
- Identify the lens sides: one is curved outwards (convex), and the other is slightly curved inwards or flat (concave).
- Place the lens into the focus ring with the convex (curved) side pointing forward (outward).
- Thread the lens nut into the focus ring. It should press firmly against the concave/flat side of the lens to hold it in place.
Step 3: Final Assembly
- Screw the completed focus ring onto the inner ring.
- Optional Focus Stop: If you have an extra M2 screw, thread it into the side of the focus ring (not touching the inner ring). This creates a "hard stop" at infinity and prevents the ring from accidentally unscrewing.
