Description

I was building an RC4WD 4Runner over the last several weeks and the 4Runner specific body mount posts (the parts tree version) seemed like a great idea – except it is impossible to get the body on with those mounts.

I have the RC4WD Xtracab and the body mount posts for it are longer (because they don't use the parts tree mount system) so I decided I'd use my spare set of Xtracab body mount posts and grub screws. The only problem was that I really didn't want to fight trying to drive screws through the inside of the chassis at a slight angle and round out the hex heads of the BHCSs and have to get the Dremel out and cut the plastic posts off.

Since I have a bunch of M3x5x4 Ruthex heat inserts I decided I'd design my own body mount posts with threaded inserts to make it much easier to drive screws into them. I recommend Ruthex or similar since the Ruthex inserts don't push melted material up and around the top of the part, but any M3x5x4 heat insert will work. An M3x6x4 would also work if you want more thread to grab on to. If you use something other than Ruthex you'll probably want to file/grind down the top of the part where the melted plastic pushes up around the heat insert.

I also included a version of the body mount posts that don't use threaded heat inserts in case you want to use these posts and don't want to fuss with heat inserts.

Thank you for checking out my model.
