Description

Looking at my original Don Carlos PVC trimming knife, I wondered how it was assembled and I think I got it in this recreation. As the actual knife is sharper than sharp and everybody that touches this thing will inevitably cut themselves, this could be used in training applications to demonstrate proper usage and PVC bead trimming techniques. My recreation is 98% or more accurate when compared to the original. It all started when working on a sheath design for the original. First I made the knife to accurately make a sheath that will work on the real version as well as the recreation. If you follow along in the photos…

  1. Make sure you test fit the blade into the handle (a few times) as this will eventually need to be pushed straight in during assembly.
  2. The “brass” ring is placed on the handle all the way up to the blade.
  3. Feed the blade straight into the handle guiding the “brass” ring on the upper cone at the same time.
  4. When the blade is seated properly, push the pins into place. I used a little mallet.
  5. Everything is on the tight side so no CA glue will be required. I've assembled three without any issues.

I've also shown the sheath fitting on both the recreation and the original. The pin locks the sheath in place!

A great item for training or just have fun adding this to a cosplay collection.
