Parametric Bowl Sundial (Fully Customizable)
This is a precision-engineered Bowl Sundial that allows you to tell time based on the sun's position. Unlike static sundials that only work for one specific location, this model is parametric. You can adjust the latitude setting to match your exact location on Earth for maximum accuracy.
🛠 How to Customize
- Click the "Customize" button (or "MakerLab" icon) on this page.
- Use the Latitude Slider to set your local latitude (between 10° and 60°).
- Example: If you live in Los Angeles, set it to 34°. For London, set it to 51°.
- The model will automatically "cut" the bowl to the correct angle for your location.
- Download the generated STL/3MF and print!
📦 Included Parts
- Customizable Bowl: The main body that catches the shadow.
- Gnomon (The Stylus): The vertical pin that casts the shadow (Standard STL, no scaling needed).
🖨 Printing Instructions
- Filament: PLA, PETG, or ASA. (ASA/PETG recommended if keeping outdoors in direct sun).
- No Scaling: DO NOT SCALE the models in your slicer. The bowl and gnomon are precision-fit. Scaling them will break the clearance for the pin.
- Supports: Not required for most printers, though a brim may help with the Gnomon's bed adhesion.
- Infill: 15-20% Gyroid for stability.
☀️ Setup & Orientation
To use the sundial correctly:
- Find your True North (use a compass or phone app).
- Place the sundial on a flat, level surface.
- Point the 12:00 mark (and the Gnomon) directly toward True North (if in the Northern Hemisphere).
- Note: Sundials show "Solar Time." This may differ from your clock time due to Daylight Savings or your position within your time zone.
