Description

About

These are replacement coins for the boardgame Nidavellir by GRRRE Games. They have the same dimensions as the original cardboard tokens, making them compatible with the original game components.
The back of the coin is blank to avoid adhesion problems during the first layer that could lead to distinct features - so no player can identify a coinś value before it is revealed.

Print profile versus the printed examples

  • The coins are set up to be printed with similar colours to the original components, but those in my images are printed with the same yellow for the arrow part. These are the colours I used, as they were the ones I had at hand, and what I would recommend using for the best colour match:
    • (1) - Body and Center of Coins 5-25  = PLA SILK+ Gold (13405)
    • (2) - Numbers = PLA SILK+ Silver (13109)
    • (3) - Background (arrow) of coins 5-25 = PLA Matte Lemon Yellow (11400)
    • (4) - Center (outside the arrow) of player coins = PLA Wood Rosewood (13204), but any brown-ish colour will do
    • (5) - Background (arrow) of player coins = PLA Matte Lemon Yellow (11400), but I would have used PLA Matte Desert Tan (11401) if I could
    • (6) - Center (outside the arrow) of the green 3 coin = PLA Bambu Green (10501), but I would recommend PLA Matte Dark Green (11501)
    • (7) - Background (arrow) of the green 3 coin = PLA Matte Lemon Yellow (11400), but I would recommend PLA Matte Grass Green (11500)
  • The plate is set up as the Textured PEI plate, but those from the image are printed with a smooth PEI plate.
  • I printed mine using ironing for the top layers, this increases the total printing time from 5h 22m to 9h27m, this has been left out of the default print profile as well.

Print without AMS

I have included a profile without AMS where the “center” component has been removed, making the “background” (arrow) pop out with the numbers on top. However, I do not recommend printing them like this due to low readability of the values.

Design Notes

All components were designed in OpenSCAD using a parametric, code-driven approach rather than traditional 3D sculpting software. This means the designs are clean and precise, but intentionally abstract — don't expect organic shapes or elaborate artwork.

The numbers on the coins are constructed from straight line segments with chamfered corners. Depending on your slicer and print settings, some junctions between segments may show a very slight indentation or protrusion — this is an inherent characteristic of the construction method rather than a modeling error.

The features on the front of the token are 0.4 mm tall to fit a 0.2 mm or 0.1 mm layer height.
