Bill of Materials
Description
Whether you have a thick rectangular concrete wall, a round metal pipe railing, or a thin 2D/3D mesh fence, this fully parametric model adapts to your exact needs. Built entirely in OpenSCAD, you can customize every single dimension to perfectly hug your railing and securely hold your favorite planters.
Key Features:
- Heavy-Duty Design: The default structural thickness is beefed up to 15mm with 22mm reinforced main nodes, ensuring it can hold even the heaviest soil-filled pots without breaking a sweat.
- Universal Railing Fit: Toggle effortlessly between Round and Rectangular railing types. Adjust the diameter or width to get a snug, perfect fit.
- Deflection Compensation: Built-in ability to angle the planter base upwards (1-25°). This pre-loads the geometry so that when a heavy, wet planter is placed on it, the plastic flexes perfectly into a perfectly leveled horizontal position!
- Custom Planter Sizing: Modify the horizontal width to match your pot's base. Adjust the height and tilt angle (0-45°) of the right upright arm to perfectly grip angled planter boxes.
- Dovetail Mesh Fence Spacer: Hanging a heavy planter on a thin mesh fence? Enable the Mesh Spacer to generate a separate, slide-in dovetail block. This allows the bottom of the hook to safely rest against the fence grid.
- Smooth Edges: Built-in edge rounding (fillets) makes the part look premium and reduces stress concentrations.
Parameter Guide (How to use the Customizer)
Railing - Top mount settings
Railing Type: Choose between a Round pipe or a Rectangular wall/railing.

Railing Size: The exact outer diameter of your round pipe, or the thickness of your rectangular wall.

Hook Extension: How far the back lip extends downwards to secure the hook against the back of the railing.

Drop Height: The vertical distance from the top of the railing down to the bottom where the planter sits.

Planter - Pot holding settings
Planter Width: The flat horizontal space for your planter box to sit on.

Upright Height: The height of the front retaining wall/arm.

Upright Angle: The tilt of the front retaining arm. 0 is perfectly straight up. Increase it to match pots with angled/tapered sides.

Deflection Angle: Tilts the entire planter support arm upwards. Used to counteract the natural bending of 3D-printed plastic under heavy loads. You'll have to experiment a bit here. I added this at the request of a friend. I recommend 1 to 5 degrees. 5° is 1,1mm height for every 10mm length.

Spacer - Bottom wall/fence support
- Enable Built in Spacer: Adds a fixed block to the back of the drop arm to keep the hook perfectly vertical against a solid wall.
- Spacer Length: Distance the built-in spacer protrudes towards the wall.
- Spacer Height: The vertical height of the built-in spacer block.
Spacer Offset: Shifts the built-in spacer up from the bottom corner.

- Enable Mesh Spacer: Replaces the built-in spacer with a sharp, precision dovetail cutout and generates a separate slide-in support block (perfect for thin wire fences or if you need some offset).
- Mesh Spacer Length: How far the slide-in spacer extends downwards.
- Mesh Spacer Thickness: The depth/thickness of the slide-in block.
- Mesh Spacer Width: The extrusion width of the slide-in block.
Mesh Spacer Plug Only: Generates only the dovetail wedge without the extended block.

Optimization
Enable Lightweight: Generates smart cutouts to save filament without compromising main structural integrity. Experimental option - please use with caution.

- Enable Rounding: Rounds off sharp corners.
Rounding Radius: Controls the size of the corner rounding.

Total Thickness
Part Thickness: The overall extrusion thickness of the entire hook (Default is a very sturdy 15mm).
Recommended Print Settings (CRITICAL FOR STRENGTH):
I recommend printing using my 0.4 and 0.8 print profiles! Ready-made settings without having to worry about making changes. Just import your object into my file.
- Orientation: Print the hook flat on its side (the default orientation). This ensures the layer lines run perpendicular to the bending forces. If you print it upright, it will snap along the layer lines under the weight of the soil!
- Material: PETG, ASA, or ABS is highly recommended. Do not use PLA, as PLA will deform under continuous load and heat (creep).
- Wall Loops / Perimeters: Minimum 4-5 walls. Wall thickness provides much more strength than infill.
- Infill: Minimum 25% (Gyroid).
- Supports: None required! Both the main hook and the dovetail spacer print perfectly flat without any support material.
How to Use the Customizer: Simply open the file in the MakerWorld Customizer. Use the sliders in the left panel to adjust the dimensions.
