Description

Boost Me (for free)

I work hard to make these models. I would very much appreciate a free boost if you like the model! It really helps to keep me motivated to keep designing! 💖

I am notoriously forgetful, so this is going to be a total lifesaver for me. There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning to find your garage door has been wide open the entire night. Feel me?

This is a simple, effective, and budget-friendly solution for monitoring your garage door using the IKEA MYGGBETT Door/Window Sensor which prices out at only $15 bucks here in Canada.

Since the IKEA sensor is a standard contact sensor, it typically requires the two parts to pull apart to trigger an alert. This print-in-place hinge design converts that linear motion into a gravity-based tilt sensor. When your garage door opens and moves to a horizontal position, the hinge swings open, separating the sensors and instantly triggering your notification.

Requirements for Smart Connectivity

To use this sensor with your smart home, you will need a Matter Controller and a Thread Border Router. If you are an Apple user, a HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K handles both. You do not necessarily need an IKEA hub if you already have a compatible Thread-enabled controller from Apple, Google, or Amazon.

Simply scan the Matter QR code on the sensor to pair it directly with your preferred smart home app.

Features

  • Print-in-Place Design: No assembly or supports required for the hinge mechanism.
  • Friction Fit: The sensors snap snugly into the housing. No glue or adhesive tape is needed to keep them in place.
  • Easy Maintenance: Includes access holes on the back so you can easily pop the sensors out when it is time to replace the AAA batteries.
  • Affordable Smart Home Fix: The MYGGBETT sensor is only $15 CAD, making this one of the cheapest garage door "smart" upgrades available.

Print Settings

  • Filament: I used PLA Tough+, but any standard PLA, PETG, or ASA will work great.
  • Supports: None.
  • Installation: Mount this to the top interior panel of your garage door using the integrated screw holes or a double sided tape adhesive (3M VHB works great)

Ensure your filament is well calibrated for the hinge!

Nice model, I was looking for something like this for the new Myggbett sensor. I ended up modifying the holes to match a couple of existing holes on my garage door. Put a couple of 3/16" pop rivets in since I can't access the back side of the holes and it works perfect.

How did you go about moving the holes?

Replying to @sgyffy :
Import the STL as mesh into Fusion, then convert mesh to body. Then you can do sketches on it, so I just drew circles to fill in the old holes, and drew new holes based on what I measured from my garage.

How do you use it? Where exactly do you mount it? Can you show any example?

I assume that you know that this is for your garage door? If you have the type of garage door that lifts up into a horizontal position when it is open, the following would apply. So when the door is closed, it sits vertically (flat) in its normal position and then when the door goes up it swings away from the sensor and triggers the notification. Same thing applies in reverse when the door goes down. Great thing about this method is you have control over when the sensor swings away. the lower you position the sensor on your door the later it will trigger.
