Description

Modular Chessboard Skeleton — Print, Assemble, Play

A minimalist yet visually striking chessboard designed from the ground up for 3D printing. This project features a structural skeleton frame with modular support pieces that join together using dovetail joints — no glue, no screws, just precise, satisfying connections.

Included in this collection:

  • Chessboard skeleton frame (modular, prints in sections)
  • Structural support pieces with dovetail connections
  • A checkers piece — inspired by the iconic Neapolitan pizza 🍕

Yes, you read that right. The checker piece design pays homage to the most famous pizza in the world — a fun nod to Italian culture baked right into your board game. Because why settle for a plain disc when you can play with a piece of Naples?

The open skeleton design was intentional: it reduces material use, speeds up print time, and creates a beautiful geometric aesthetic that a solid board simply can't match. The dovetail joinery adds both structural strength and a touch of craftsmanship to every assembly.

Print Settings:

  • Material: PLA (any brand)
  • Layer height: 0.2mm recommended
  • Infill: 15–20% (gyroid or grid)
  • Supports: Not required
  • Bed adhesion: Brim recommended for frame pieces

Assembly: All parts connect via dovetail joints — no adhesive needed. Light sanding on joints may improve fit depending on your printer's tolerances.
