A larger, reinforced version of my original drywall screw hook—built to handle extension cords, lumber, and real garage weight. Tested over 200 lbs.
Overview
A larger, reinforced version of my original drywall screw-compatible wall hook—built for heavier, bulkier storage.
This design keeps the same simple mounting approach but increases the hook size and structural strength for real-world garage use: extension cords, lumber, hoses, and anything awkward that doesn’t sit well on standard hooks.
Tested beyond 200 lbs in real-world and destructive testing in PLA!!!
What’s New vs Original
- Larger hook opening for bulkier items
- Increased material and reinforced geometry in the 3MF file. (yellow block)
- Better load distribution into the wall
- Designed specifically for heavier-duty use cases
Key Features
- Drywall screw compatible (no anchors required when hitting studs or attaching directly to lumber/framing)
- High load capacity – tested to hold over 200 lbs
- Optimized geometry for strength and print efficiency
- Clean, minimal design that looks good in a garage, shop or even in your home
- Fast print, no supports needed
Use Cases
- Extension cords (coiled or bundled)
- Lumber storage (short lengths, offcuts)
- Air hoses / pressure washer hoses
- Shop cables and heavy gear
- General garage organization
Print Settings
- Material: PLA+ / PETG (PETG preferred for outdoor durability)
- Layer height: 0.2mm
- Walls: 3-4 perimeters
- Infill: 20–40% (Gyroid or Support Cubic)
- Top/Bottom: 5+ layers
- Orientation: Flat on side (as designed)
- Supports: Tree
Mounting Tips
- Best performance when mounted into a stud or solid support structure
- Pre-drill if needed for clean install
- If using drywall only, use appropriate anchors for your needs
Strength Notes
This design has been physically tested past 200 lbs, but real-world performance depends on:
- Print quality
- Material choice
- Wall structure (stud vs drywall)
- Screw quality
Why This Exists
Most wall hooks are either:
- Too small
- Too weak
- Or overcomplicated
This is a simple, strong solution that prints fast and actually gets used.
