Protect your wooden posts from rot and weathering with this fully customizable, modern post cap! Designed with a sleek truncated pyramid top, this cap is completely parametric. Whether you have standard 4x4s, massive 6x6s, or oddly sized custom lumber, you can generate a cap that fits perfectly.
Key Features
- Fully Parametric: Easily adjust the post size, skirt height, and top flat width to match your exact aesthetic and functional needs.
- Auto-Scaling Strength: The wall thickness automatically calculates based on your post size, ensuring large caps remain structurally sound without wasting plastic on small caps.
- Built-In Tolerance: Engineered with a built-in 0.5mm clearance for a satisfying, snug friction fit on standard lumber.
- Optional Hardware Mounting: Toggleable side screw holes with auto-calculating countersinks. The code intelligently places the holes to prevent edge tear-out.
Printing Recommendations
- Material: PETG, ASA, or ABS are highly recommended for outdoor use due to their UV and temperature resistance. (Standard PLA may warp in direct summer sunlight).
- Infill: 15-20% Gyroid or Cubic.
- Perimeters (Walls): 3 to 4 perimeters for added impact resistance and weatherproofing.
- Orientation: Print flat on its top (the flat square part of the pyramid) or flat on its bottom opening.
How to Customize:
Open the included OpenSCAD file and use the Customizer menu. You can toggle between Inches and Millimeters, adjust the exact dimensions, and turn the screw holes on or off before exporting your final design.
Be sure to turn on supports or orient for the top to print down!
