Description

This module adds front-access I/O and storage expansion to the modular 3U rack system, designed specifically around the CalDigit TS3 to integrate seamlessly with the Mac Studio mounts and other system components.

It combines a secure TS3 dock mount, dual front-access 2.5" SSD bays, and a high-speed USB4 extension, transforming your rack into a clean, accessible workstation hub.

🧩 What This Module Does

  • Mounts a CalDigit TS3 dock securely inside the rack
  • Adds two front-access 2.5" SSD slots
  • Extends a high-speed USB4 / Thunderbolt port to the front
  • Keeps cables clean and routed internally
  • Maintains full compatibility with the modular rack ecosystem

This is ideal if you want your rack to feel less like storage and more like a desk-integrated workstation.

⚡ Front I/O Features

🔌 Required Hardware (Electronics)

Adapters and cables are not included with the print.

🔧 Required Hardware (Assembly)

Same core hardware as the modular system:

  • (2) 1/4"-20 x 5" hex bolts
  • (2) 1/4"-20 nylon lock nuts
  • M3 heat-set inserts + bolts (for internal mounting)

🧵 Print Recommendations

Materials:

  • PLA → will work
  • PETG → recommended
  • ABS / ASA → best (strength + heat resistance)

Notes:

  • Use reinforced bolt hole profiles
  • Avoid low infill near mounting points
  • Internal component mounts benefit from higher wall count

⚠️ Design Notes

  • SSDs are designed for tool-less slide-in access
  • USB4 extension routing is internal, ensure cable bend radius is respected
  • CalDigit dock fit is based on standard dimensions, verify if using alternate models
  • This module prioritizes clean front access over hot-swap speed

💡 Why This Exists

Most rack setups hide everything in the back.

This flips that idea bringing storage, high-speed I/O, and daily-use ports to the front where you actually need them.
