Description

*** Version 2 features shortened  teeth and a wider arc to ensure a better fit against the cartridge ring. The handle hole has also been moved higher to provide better clearance and improved leverage during use. ***

This is a 3D-printable comparable to the Moen 14272 tool, designed to unscrew the plastic retainer nut (or ring) that holds a 1224 cartridge inside a two-handle faucet.

Design Improvements

  • Precision Fit: The teeth are set to  hug the nut perfectly. This prevents the tool from wobbling and stops you from stripping or "rounding off" the plastic edges of the nut.
  • Side-by-Side Comparison: Check the uploaded photos to see how this design compares to the standard metal version. You will notice the tighter fit and the significantly longer handle rod, which provides much better leverage for stuck nuts.
  • Versatile Torque: While it includes a custom T-handle, shaped so you can also use locking pliers or a 7/8" (22mm) socket wrench directly on the tool for maximum "break-away" power.

Print Settings

  • Material: PETG is mandatory for the required toughness. (PLA is too brittle for this much torque).
  • Walls: 6 Wall Loops. This makes the teeth solid plastic so they won't snap off.
  • Infill: 50% Gyroid.
  • Supports: Yes, for a cleaner print for the over hangs.

Assembly & Use

  1. Snap-Fit: Your 9mm rod should click firmly into the side clip for storage.
  2. Pro Tip: If the nut is seized due to mineral buildup, remove the rod and use a socket wrench on the main body of the tool. The opening is a precision fit; if it's too tight on your specific faucet, a quick light sanding on the inside of the teeth will perfect the seat.
