Description
Behold in it's giant glory, the Big Boy Advance SP!
This is a 2x scale replica of Nintendo's finest handheld device, designed to be shown off on a desktop or hung on your wall. This big boy will proudly display a lithophane from your favorite GBA game with adjustable brightness & two options for power (USB C port or 4 AA batteries). If your looking for a fun project to build and a slick decoration for your gaming room, I've got you covered!
This model features:
-A removable frame that allows you to hot-swap custom Lithophanes as you desire
-A functional power slider switch and brightness knob in the proper locations (brightness replaces the volume slider of the real GBA SP)
-Functional A & B buttons that toggle the power and charge LEDs on or off
-4xAA Battery power, or for extra brightness and convenience, a USB C power port where the real GBA SP charge port is located.
-Springy tactile buttons for fidgeting fun - L, R, Start, Select, Backlight & D-Pad all have that pushy feel!
-A cartridge bay that uses magnets to swap cartridges with labels
-Mount holes on the back, for hanging on the wall with push-pins or screws
Assembly Difficulty: 2.5/5 - Some basic soldering skills required, as well as the use of tools. Check out the assembly guide first before undertaking this task.
When designing this, I ventured to only use parts that were available on the maker supply store for ease of sourcing. Makers supply does not have a sliding power switch that uses a PH2.0 connector, so this project requires some minor soldering to modify the XH2.54 wire that comes with the switch to make it compatible. For more details, look through the assembly guide.
Custom lithophane size settings are available for making your own screen, included on page 41 of the assembly guide.
