Description
Educational Model of a Prokaryotic Cell
This is a model of a prokaryotic (bacterial) cell, easy to print and ideal for the use in biology class. The model is part of a “cell types” series I'm currently working on that should illustrate the difference between the three main cell types (prokaryotic, plant cell, animal cell).
Feel free to give me a follow to stay updated on my other projects and if you like and even use my models in class, I'd very much appreciate it if you could leave a like and if you can boost the model. Feedback is also always welcome. Thank you very much!
Don't forget to rate the print profile after a successful print :D
Parts
The V2 model consists of 8 individual parts:
- Updated Capsule to support Pili
- Flagellum Motor (not an actual motor, just the connection piece between the capsule and the flagellum)
- Flagellum (2 pieces)
- Cell Wall
- Cell Membrane
- Cytoplasm (with ribosomes as holes)
- Opitonal: Cytoplasm + Ribosomes Multicolour Print
- Nucleoid (DNA)
- Plasmid ring
- Pili
Assembly
It is recommended to glue the following parts in place using super glue:
- 2 flagellum pieces
- flagellum → flagellum motor
- pili → capsule
The layer parts (cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm) as well as the flagellum and the DNA pieces (nucleoid & plasmid) don't necessarily have to be glued together and can be used to let the students assemble the model as part of the teaching sequence.
Please note that the flagellum is split in half horizontally on purpose to increase strength of the part due to the layer line orientation. If printed as one piece vertically, the flagellum breaks easily, which isn't ideal for the use in a classroom ;)
Versions
- Version 1: Base model without pili and no holes for pili in the capsule piece.
- Version 2: Up-to-date version that contains the updated pili-compatible capsule piece and pili. Furthermore, this print profile also contains a Multi-Colour version of the Cytoplasm with extruding Ribosomes to print in two different colours.
Boost Me (for free)
I'm working full time as a teacher and create these models in my spare time. If you like them, please consider boosting me, that would mean a lot to me :) Thank you!
