10mm Extension Box & Complete Custom Frame Set for Merten System M (Shelly Ready)

If you have ever tried to fit a smart relay like the Shelly 1PM Mini behind a standard wall switch or socket, you know the struggle: standard flush-mount boxes simply do not offer enough space. To solve this "Shelly space problem," I designed a complete, fully 3D-printable extension system for the Merten System M series.

Instead of just adding a hidden spacer, this set replaces the original Merten outer frame completely. It provides approximately 10mm of extra depth while maintaining a clean look.

Key Features:

  • Complete Replacement Set: Includes the base spacer, the insert adapters, and the custom 3D-printed outer frames (1-gang, 2-gang, and 3-gang). You do not need the original Merten outer frame anymore!
  • Perfect Fit: Specifically designed to house the Merten System M metal brackets securely.
  • Smart Home Ready: Creates exactly the room you need to safely tuck away a Shelly module (or similar smart relays) and WAGO connectors without violently crushing the wires.

Installation Order:

  1. 3D-printed Insert Adapters
  2. Merten switch/socket metal insert
  3. 3D-printed Custom Outer Frame

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Material Requirements

DO NOT USE PLA! Smart home relays generate heat under load, especially when installed behind power sockets. PLA softens at low temperatures (~60°C) and poses a significant fire hazard in electrical installations.

  • I strongly recommend printing these parts in ASA (which I used) or PETG/ABS for high temperature resistance, dimensional stability, and UV resistance.
