This 3D model is a minimalist wall clock housing inspired by the visual language of Apple’s clock widget. The design focuses on clean geometry, soft radii, and a calm, balanced appearance while remaining fully functional and easy to manufacture using standard 3D printing methods.

 

Overall Design

The housing follows a rounded rectangular (squircle-style) form, closely resembling the proportions andsoftness typically associated with modern Apple UI elements. The frame and the main housing are designed to sit on the same plane, without any height offset between them, resulting in a seamless and uniform front appearance.

All visible surfaces are flat and clean, emphasizing simplicity and precision. The model avoids unnecessary details and relies on subtle geometry and proportion to achieve its aesthetic.

 

Dial & Markers

This 3D model is a minimalist wall clock housing inspired by the visual language of Apple’s clock widget. The clock face features slightly raised hour markers and numerals, lifted approximately 2 mm above the surface. This provides depth and clear visual separation while maintaining a minimalist look.

All other parts of the dial remain completely flat, which improves print quality and ensures a clean finish even with standard FDM printers.

The layout is optimized for readability and works especially well with contrasting colors between the housing and the markers.

 

Clock Mechanism Compatibility

The internal geometry is designed to accommodate a rectangular clock movement with nominal dimensions of 56 mm × 56 mm.

  • The cavity includes small tolerances to ensure a secure fit
  • Slight dimensional variations between different clock mechanisms are accounted for
  • For mechanisms with slightly smaller dimensions, a small amount of double-sided tape or adhesive is recommended to ensure a firm and rattle-free installation

Wall Mounting

This model is specifically designed for wall mounting.

Integrated mounting holes are directly modeled into the housing, allowing the clock to be hung using standard nails. No additional brackets or hardware are required.

Assembly Concept

The model is designed as a multi-part assembly:

  • All parts are printed individually
  • Final assembly is done after printing
  • A small amount of glue can be used to secure parts where necessary

❗Important Note on the SecondHand❗

Due to the design and size of the included second hand:

  • It is very likely that the printed second hand will not fit perfectly onto all clock mechanisms
  • Some clock movements may also lack sufficient torque to reliably drive the printed second hand

Recommended solution:

Use the original second hand included with the clock mechanism and simply paint it orange. This provides a visually identical result while ensuring reliable operation.
