Description

This 3D printable motivation card brings Mark Twain’s powerful words to life in a bold, elegant design perfect for any space. The model features the full quote prominently displayed in clean, impactful typography on a shield-shaped plaque that evokes strength, resilience, and classic wisdom.

The Origin of the Quote

The words “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear” were written by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) and first appeared in March 1894 in The Century Magazine as part of the serialization of his novel The Tragedy of Pudd’nhead Wilson. They form the epigraph for Chapter 12 under the heading “Pudd’nhead Wilson’s Calendar” — a collection of witty, insightful sayings attributed to the book’s eccentric title character. The full passage continues with Twain’s signature humor, contrasting human courage with the “bravery” of a flea that attacks without any concept of danger. Twain’s point is crystal clear: true courage isn’t ignorance of fear — it’s the conscious choice to resist and master it.

Hang this shield where you’ll see it every day — in your workshop, home office, gym, or bedroom — and let it remind you that every time you face a challenge, you’re not supposed to be fearless. You’re simply supposed to be courageous.  Print it. Gift it. Live it.

I’d love to see your finished makes — drop them in the comments and let’s inspire the whole MakerWorld community together!  Happy printing and even happier courage-building!

Presentation

For optimal display, I recommend using my postcard and picture stand or my Daily Motivation Nook.
