Description

Upgrading a turntable for 3D scanning 🔧

After getting a 3D scanner, I quickly ran into a limitation — the stock turntable is only 14 cm. It works fine for small parts, but anything bigger becomes inconvenient: poor stability, tricky centering, and less accurate scans.

So I designed my own solution.

I modeled and printed a modular extension (shown in the photo 👇):
— increases the working diameter
— built from multiple segments (easy to store and transport)
— assembles into a rigid structure
— locking joints eliminate play
— angled elements help capture more geometry during scanning

In practice, it works like a transformable turntable — you can adjust the size depending on the task.

Now:
✔️ larger objects are easy to scan
✔️ fewer blind spots
✔️ more stable and consistent results

If you're dealing with the same limitation, I can design a custom solution for your setup. Feel free to reach out 👍
