Center Of Gravity Bird
Print Profile(1)

Description
I've used this bird to teach children the concept of center of gravity for a theory of flight class. It puzzles children and adults. They initially don't understand why the bird balances on the tip of a finger until you explain the weight distribution.
I would recommend using a stronger plastic than PLA, particularly if you plan to allow others to balance it on their finger. The project file uses PETG but I've also used ABS.
I used the original model but found when allowing kids to balance it on the tip of their finger it would break if it fell off their finger. Over time I made different versions to increase strength and make it easier to assemble.
If you find that on the stand the bird leans to one side you may need to file down the end of the beak to flatten it.
