Description
The original fossil is exhibited on the 2nd floor of the China Science and Technology Museum
Chinese Dilophosaurus is a theropod carnivorous dinosaur, approximately 6 meters long, with its most distinctive feature being two large bony crests on its head. It lived in the early Jurassic period, and its fossils were found in Lufeng and Jinning, Yunnan, China, among other places.
This dinosaur was first discovered in Jinning, Yunnan in 1987. In April 2023, Triassic Sinoraptor and Chinese Dilophosaurus were confirmed as two species of the genus Sinoraptor, with relevant findings published in the international academic journal 'Historical Biology'. Research confirmed that the Chinese Dilophosaurus found in Jinning belongs to the genus Sinoraptor, not the North American genus Dilophosaurus as previously believed.
