Gazing Phoenix (Fawkes) from Harry Potter (Giant/with base/multi-part/requires hand-painted details/rich texture details)
Print Profile(3)

Description
Fawkes, the phoenix, is a pet of Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts, in the "Harry Potter" series. It possesses extraordinary magical abilities, can be reborn after death (phoenix), and its tears can heal wounds.
After my two snowy owl statues (Hedwig) were well-received, I continued to complete this larger (default total height 420mm, 2.5 times the size of the "Perched Snowy Owl"), more elaborate, and more realistic piece.
The shape, posture, and coloring are all referenced from the movie. The default size is about 2/3 of that in the movie stills (the phoenix's head is about half the size of Harry's head). It features a segmented design and supports further enlargement for printing.
The overall design uses segmented parts with hidden seams, concealing the assembly gaps under the feathers, which enhances the overall integrity of the piece.
- Recommended profile is the 420mm total height segmented version. Non-essential parts use lightning infill for material saving and efficiency. Hot glue is recommended for installation after painting. v1.1 update
- After the v1.1 update, the 360mm version was removed, and unprintable parts of the 420mm version for A1 and similar models were changed to diagonal printing. This adds slight support marks but allows for printing standard sizes.
- For smaller sizes, you can scale the recommended version yourself
- After printing, it needs to be hand-painted. It is recommended to use acrylic paint with a brush for thick coats on feather textures, then use a fine-tip acrylic pen for detailed painting. The difficulty is medium. (Painting suggestions are below)
May 30, 2026 v2 upgrade
- Added full-size configurations, while fine-tuning each version of the phoenix, adjusting feather details, and adding more painted supports and robust tree supports. This slightly increases filament consumption in exchange for a lower chance of spaghetti due to insufficient build plate adhesion.

Printing & Filament Instructions (Do not change print profile unless necessary)
- Most segmented parts have designed printing planes, and manual support settings have been added to prevent spaghetti.
- Parts without a printing plane are printed diagonally to minimize support surfaces and layer lines.
- The main body uses lightning infill to save material and improve printing efficiency.
- Filament recommendations: Main body (PLA Glossy or Matte Red), Claws (PLA Matte Gunmetal Grey or Rock Grey), Base (PLA Silk Gold or Silver Gold)
Support Removal & Installation Instructions
- v1.1 update For the body and tail, wrap-around robust tree supports are used. You can pull the model directly upward from the build plate, and the supports will naturally separate.
- Care must be taken when removing head supports. It is recommended to use needle-nose pliers to cut the middle section of the support, then pull the support directly out with vertical force along the support surface.
- Since the phoenix in the movie has purely black eyes, I personally felt there was no need for segmentation; it can be painted directly by hand. Optionally, glossy acrylic paint or UV resin can be added.
- Each joint is simple and easy to understand. It is recommended to fix with hot glue after painting, simply press firmly.
Painting Instructions & Suggestions
- Painting should follow the rule of light colors first, then dark colors. For delicate areas, pay special attention to ink bleeding that may be caused by FDM layer lines (especially with dark pens), and use dot painting method more often.
- When painting with acrylic pens, after the first layer dries, apply several more layers to intensify the color.
- The coloring of feather textures can be freely expressed by referencing movie stills. Gradient transitions can be created by rubbing with a wet tissue.
- Painting suggestions
- Head: Yellow feathers, dark grey beak, glossy black eyes
- Abdomen: Refer to movie stills, apply light yellow acrylic paint with a brush. The color will seep along the feather texture, creating a natural effect.
- Wings: Refer to movie stills, apply a thin layer of light yellow (i.e., acrylic paint diluted with a little water) to the small feathers of the wings to create a sense of depth.
- Tail: Refer to movie stills, the concentration of light yellow is between that of the abdomen and wings.
- Feet: Optional to paint
