MultiLink L Corner | 90° Connector for MultiBoard Octagon Plates is the first model in the MultiLink series, an original 3D project completely redesigned to provide a solution compatible with the MultiBoard / MultiBuild ecosystem while not being part of the official project. The project was born out of a strong appreciation for the MultiBoard system and from the desire to thank Jonathan Kobylanski for creating such a useful, flexible, and community-loved modular platform. MultiLink is not meant to replace MultiBoard, but to offer a compatible and specialized alternative for a very specific need: building containers and modular structures with a 90° geometry, avoiding the space wasted by inclined solutions or systems based on 45° angles.
The MultiBoard / MultiBuild system provides a very broad modular ecosystem, with boards, tiles, beams, snaps, base parts, and other components designed for organization and custom structures. On the official multibuild.io website, you can find references to the system, the component library, and free tools for generating custom parts, including the Octagon Plates through the dedicated generator. MultiLink fits into this context as a solution fully inspired by that world, but with an autonomous design and a geometry completely rethought from scratch for a specific goal: maximizing the volumetric efficiency of containers.

Why MultiLink L Corner Exists
The first element of the series, MultiLink L Corner, is a 90° connector designed to join elements compatible with MultiBoard Octagon Plates and create clean, compact, and functional angled structures. The idea behind it is simple but very important: when building a container or storage system with angled joints, a portion of the usable space is inevitably lost. MultiLink L Corner removes that compromise, making it possible to obtain both internal and external 90° angles, a much better choice when the goal is to store square or rectangular objects, organize small parts, build technical trays, or create neat and regular storage modules.
In practical terms, this makes the model ideal for anyone who loves the modular approach of MultiBoard but wants a more “box-oriented” alternative, meaning one that is better suited to the construction of actual containers, with straight walls and optimal use of the available internal volume. The advantage is not only aesthetic: in many cases, a 90° geometry genuinely improves usable capacity, reduces dead space, and makes it easier to stack, place side by side, or combine different modules.

Where It Stands Compared to Beams
One of the starting points of the project is the appreciation for the beams in the MultiBoard system, which are extremely useful for creating solid and modular containers. MultiLink, however, was created as a response to a specific limitation of that geometry: when the connection creates inclined angles, space is inevitably wasted in the inner portion of the container. With MultiLink, the goal is to preserve the same idea of modularity and strength, but with a 90° structure that makes better use of every available millimeter.
For this reason, MultiLink is not meant to replace beams, but to serve as a complementary alternative. Beams remain perfect for many configurations; MultiLink is the right choice when the shape of the container interior, structural compactness, and the ability to handle regular objects without losing usable space matter more.
What You Can Build
With the first L Corner model, the MultiLink system makes it possible to start building a wide range of objects:
- simple trays,
- open-sided containers,
- linear storage modules,
- spool racks,
- document shelves,
- any rack for routers and switch,
- side-by-side container assemblies,
- compact solutions with squared internal angles,
- foundations for future multi-compartment structures.
This approach makes MultiLink useful both for desktop projects and for workshop, laboratory, or maker-space organization. The ability to keep the inside geometry at 90° is especially valuable when containers need to hold regular-shaped items, because it reduces wasted space and makes the overall layout more rational.
Project Roadmap
MultiLink L Corner is only the first step in a broader roadmap. The series is planned to expand over time with additional components:
- L Corner: the base 90° module, designed for the first angular configurations.
- T Corner: an element for connecting multiple containers in a T-shaped branch.
- X Corner: a component for multidirectional connections, both in width and height, useful for more complex builds and wall-style compositions.
- Compatible drawers: a future advanced phase, intended to complete the system with even more evolved storage solutions.
The idea behind the roadmap is to grow MultiLink from a simple connector into a true family of modular components, gradually covering increasingly complex needs. The starting point is intentionally simple, but the direction is toward a coherent, expandable, and genuinely useful ecosystem for everyday printing and organization.
Compatibility and Attribution
MultiLink is compatible with MultiBoard / MultiBuild, especially with the Octagon Plates, but it is important to note that the project is independent and unofficial. It was developed as a personal and technical reinterpretation of the modular concept, inspired by the original system but completely redesigned to address a specific space-optimization need.
Proper attribution to the original project is essential: MultiBoard / MultiBuild was created by Jonathan Kobylanski, and MultiLink also comes from recognizing the value of that work. For this reason, it is correct and transparent to state in the model page that this is a compatible, inspired, and unofficial proposal, designed for the community that appreciates the MultiBoard ecosystem but wants an alternative 90° geometry.
Functional Summary
MultiLink L Corner is designed for anyone looking for:
- compatibility with the MultiBoard ecosystem,
- modular structure,
- internal and external 90° geometry,
- maximum space efficiency,
- the ability to create squared containers,
- a foundation for future, more complex components,
- an original project that remains consistent with the MultiBuild philosophy.
MultiLink is inspired by the MultiBoard ecosystem, but it is not a remix of any existing object. It has been completely redesigned from scratch to connect and fill modular elements in a new way, making it an independent and compatible tool rather than a derivative of another model.
