This flexible fidget toy is based on a real dinosaur vertebra fossil, reimagined as a satisfying articulated spine you can print at home.

Each segment links together to create a flowing, organic motion—whether you think of it as a sauropod tail section or a dragon spine, it works beautifully either way.

The model comes pre-painted for AMS in two colours, highlighting the contrast between bone and the softer “spongy” material between vertebrae. There’s also a single-colour version included if you prefer a clean, uniform look—both versions print great.

🔧 Print Details

  • Adjustable length: 3 to 10 links (included in the 3MF file)
  • Pre-painted AMS version + single colour option
  • Small, targeted supports already painted in
  • Supports are easy to remove
  • Minor cleanup recommended:
    • Light pass with a sharp scalpel or
    • Quick touch with a soft nail file

🧠 Fidget & Sensory Use

This isn’t just a display piece—it’s designed to be used.

  • Wiggle, twist, shake, rattle, or squeeze
  • Smooth articulated motion with a slightly tactile surface
  • Can be held in a fist grip, with the spine protruding between fingers

That grip style creates a form of “safe pressure” stimulation, which some people use as a stimming aid. It’s often associated with:

  • Focus support
  • Stress relief
  • Dopamine regulation (as commonly discussed in ADHD/autism communities)

Personally, I find it especially satisfying to squeeze one finger at a time along the spine.

🦖 Dinosaur or 🐉 Dragon?

This model works equally well as:

  • A realistic fossil-inspired dinosaur spine, or
  • A fantasy dragon spine / tail segment

Feel free to print, scale, and present it however you like.
