Description
This is REV 1.0 and a 3D-scale model of a true maritime pioneer. Built in 1959 in Norway, this was the first-ever fiberglass boat with a cockpit produced in the country. It represents a unique transition from traditional wooden boat building to modern composite materials.
The Story: A Volkswagen in Disguise
What makes this boat truly legendary is the creative engineering behind it. To design the cabin (cockpit), the builders used the roof of a Volkswagen Type 2 (Transporter/Minibus) as a mold!
If you look closely at the model, you can see the iconic lines of the classic VW bus reflected in the window frames and the roof's curvature. This "industrial mashup" between a rugged Norwegian fishing hull and German automotive design created a style unlike any other boat of its time.
Technical Details
- The Hull: Based on a traditional "basbåt" (a sturdy, wide-beamed Norwegian open fishing boat), making it incredibly stable and seaworthy.
- Original Power: Originally equipped with a classic 8HP single-cylinder diesel engine.
- 3D Model Features: * Modeled after the original boat, which is still operational today after over 65 years at sea.
- Windows are modeled as contours to ensure a successful print with higher structural strength and fewer supports needed inside the cabin.
- Perfect for fans of vintage boats, Volkswagen history, or maritime heritage.
