0.20mm Calcium Chloride Box & Moisture Reservoir
Print Profile(1)

Description
Effectively manage humidity and protect your sensitive equipment, filaments, or storage environments with this heavily reinforced, 3D-printable desiccant container. Designed specifically for use with calcium chloride, this model features a specialized dual-chamber system to safely handle the unique chemical properties of the desiccant as it pulls moisture from the air.
Unlike standard silica gel, calcium chloride aggressively absorbs ambient humidity and converts it into a liquid brine. This model is meticulously engineered to isolate that liquid, keeping your storage environment completely dry and safe from accidental spills or chemical cross-contamination.
Features
- Integrated Moisture Reservoir (Water Shelter): The built-in lower catchment chamber acts as a secure liquid trap. As the top layer of calcium chloride absorbs humidity and liquefies, the resulting brine safely drains into the reservoir below, preventing overflow and keeping the remaining solid desiccant active.
- Heavy-Duty Construction: Designed with thickened structural walls and reinforced stress points to ensure the container remains rigid and highly durable, even when fully loaded with heavy desiccant and accumulated liquid.
- Precision 0.20mm Tolerances: The model has been carefully optimized with 0.20mm clearances, ensuring a perfect balance between a snug, secure fit and smooth assembly right off the build plate.
- Optimized Airflow: The upper chamber features strategically placed ventilation to maximize the surface area exposure of the calcium chloride to the air, drastically improving moisture absorption rates.
The Design Process This project holds a special significance as it is my very first custom 3D model. Driven by the practical need for a reliable, heavy-duty humidity control solution, I took on the challenge of learning 3D design and built this entire model from scratch using SketchUp.
Translating a concept into a functional, structural part as an inaugural project was an incredible learning experience. Modeling the precise 0.20mm tolerances, calculating the drainage angles, and engineering the reinforced walls required careful planning and iteration. While this may be my debut model, it was built with a commitment to utility, durability, and professional-grade performance.
Recommended Print Settings
- Layer Height: 0.20mm (Standard)
- Wall Loops/Perimeters: 3 or 4 (for added structural rigidity and water-tightness)
- Infill: 15% - 20% Gyroid or Cubic
- Material: PETG or ABS/ASA is highly recommended for their durability and chemical resistance, though tough PLA will work for general indoor use.
- Supports: (Add your specific support recommendations here, e.g., "No supports required" or "Minimal tree supports for overhangs")
I hope this model serves you as well as it has served me. Feedback and makes are highly appreciated!
