I present my enclosure for the “AllSky camera” (https://github.com/AllskyTeam/allsky). I designed this enclosure specifically to be able to take a small, handy version of the AllSky with me on vacation (I'm in Iceland 1-2 times a year) to capture the night sky there.
However, the enclosure could certainly also be used for stationary use…

The enclosure has the following features:

  • USB Type-C socket for 5 volt power supply via power bank (without heating)
  • IP55 circular connector for 12 volt power supply via power adapter (with heating)
  • Heating function (with 12 V power supply)
  • Mounting on camera tripod
  • Splash-proof

My components used (not mandatory!):

Connecting materials:

  • M2.5 screws
  • M2.5 heat-set inserts
  • ¼" heat-set insert ("camera thread")
  • Contact adhesive ("Patex")
  • Cables

Suitable accessories:

The black dome seal is glued with contact adhesive ("Patex"). Before mounting the dome, ensure the adhesive is completely dry and aired out. Also, let the heating element heat up thoroughly once.

Temperature sensor, Shelly, voltage regulator are glued with 2K epoxy resin.

CAUTION! The heating element has relatively high power at 12 Volts (30 Watts)! The power can be adjusted with the voltage regulator. At 5 Volts, it can be switched on for a longer period (1 hour), and even longer below 0°C. At 12 Volts, it should only be switched on for a maximum of 5 minutes, otherwise it gets very hot. This is a heating element for car side mirrors.

TIP: The closer the lens is to the dome, the better. This minimizes the risk of visible light reflections from the dome.
