Description

☀️ Solar Node Cap – Owl Light (Bunnings / ALDI)

This cap converts common Bunnings / ALDI solar owl lights into compact solar-powered LoRa / IoT nodes. It replaces the original lens cap and provides a mounting surface for antennas or internal electronics.

The angled antenna version now includes a Face Negative Offset option, allowing the face section to be pushed further inward to create extra internal space for batteries, radios, regulators, wiring, or other hardware.

🔧 Use Case

  • LoRa / Meshtastic / MeshCore nodes
  • Solar repeater nodes
  • Remote IoT deployments

🖨️ Models

Two versions are available:

1 – Flat Cap

A clean, flat mounting surface for antennas or external hardware.

2 – Angled Antenna Mount (Customizable)

An adjustable angled mount for directional antenna installs.

Use the Customize button in MakerWorld to dial in:

  • 📐 Antenna angle
  • 📡 Antenna type (SMA, N-Type, etc.)
  • 🎯 Fine-tune antenna position
  • ↕️ Face Negative Offset for extra internal clearance

🔩 Mounting & Fit

  • Reuses original screws and rubber seal
  • No additional hardware required
  • Drop-in replacement design
  • Maintains weather sealing when assembled

🔄 Orientation

  • Fully symmetric design
  • Can be rotated 180°
  • Supports antennas with an angled mount or hinged joint

✅ Features

  • Two cap styles — flat and angled
  • Face Negative Offset adjustment for more internal room
  • Clean internal space for electronics
  • Parametric customization via MakerWorld
  • Easy to modify (OpenSCAD included)

🧩 Compatibility

Tested with:

  • Bunnings solar owl light
  • ALDI solar garden lights (same housing style)

⚠️ Many generic solar lights use similar caps and may also fit.

🖨️ Print Settings

  • Orientation: Cap facing down (top surface on build plate)
  • Supports: Required
  • Layer height: 0.2mm
  • Walls: 3–4
  • Infill: 15–25%

🧠 Printing Notes

Printing the cap face-down gives the best surface finish on the visible top side. Supports are required for the screw holes. Printing in other orientations may affect fit and surface quality.

☀️ Material Recommendations

  • PLA → OK for testing
  • PETG → Recommended
  • ASA → Best for long-term outdoor use

🧠 Notes

Designed for a snug fit. Depending on printer tolerances, light sanding may improve fit.
