MACH MASTERS: Thrust SSC and Bloodhound SSC
Print Profile(1)

Description
Thrust SSC (acronym in English for SuperSonic Car) is a British hybrid of a car and a fighter jet. On October 15, 1997, it reached 1,232.93 km/h, breaking the sound barrier by achieving Mach speed 1.002. Such an achievement was possible because it used two afterburning Rolls-Royce Spey 202 turbojets, similar to those used in F-4 Phantom II fighter jets. The Thrust SSC weighs 10 tons, accelerates from 0 to 160 kilometers per hour in 4 seconds, and its power is equivalent to that of 145 Formula 1 cars
Bloodhound SSC (acronym in English for SuperSonic Car) is the second land vehicle designed by the SSC team with the goal of setting a new land speed record. It is still in the prototype phase, and the first full-scale model was unveiled in July 2010
