Description

SV08 Light Toolhead Mod (LTM)

Simple. Lightweight. No hassle upgrade.

The stock SV08 extruder works… but not for long.
After dealing with wear and replacement parts, I decided to build a better solution — without turning the printer into a full rebuild project.

This is the result.

Why this mod?

Most available toolhead upgrades require:

  • fancy CAN bus conversion
  • complete rewiring
  • major Klipper changes
  • lots of experience

That wasn’t the goal here.

The LTM (Light Toolhead Mod) is designed to be:

  • easy to install
  • beginner-friendly
  • compatible with stock hardware
  • reliable for daily use

Key Features

✔ ~100 g lighter than stock
✔ Improved weight distribution
✔ Keeps most original SV08 parts
✔ No CAN bus required
✔ Minimal firmware changes
✔ Easy installation

The lower weight alone already makes a noticeable difference in print behavior compared to the stock toolhead.

Compatibility & Features

Supports:

  • Eddy
  • Klicky
  • RGB LED

Optional upgrades:

  • Bambu Lab hotend (with adapter)
  • Filament cutter

Development

This project took quite a while before release.
I tested multiple iterations to make sure it’s reliable, easy to assemble, and actually worth using.

The goal was not to build the “best” or most complex toolhead —
but a practical upgrade that just works.

Who is this for?

This mod is for you if you:

  • want a better extruder without rebuilding your whole printer
  • don’t want to deal with CAN bus or complex wiring
  • prefer simple, clean upgrades
  • still want to keep your stock setup mostly intact

Files & Guide

All required files and instructions are included.

If you like the project, I’d really appreciate a download / like / feedback 👍

Excellent model, I was eager to test it. Since I don't have a Sherpa Mini, I'm using an HGX Lite 2.0. To adapt it, I used its Dragon Burner support. As soon as I finish printing everything, I'll install it.

Great! This will be the next mod for my sovol. Recently my extruder gears became worn, I was searching for a replacement head, but there was nothing similar at a time, now a few months later we get this bad boy :D

Would you happen to know if this works with the SOSA(sovol orbiter stand alone, stock extruder in a sherpa mini bolt pattern mount)?
