3D Model of Cristo Rei (Almada) for Multi-Part Printing

General Description

This is a detailed 3D model of the iconic National Sanctuary of Cristo Rei, located in Almada, Portugal. Inspired by the famous Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, this monument is a symbol of faith and offers stunning views of Lisbon. Our model was designed to be printed in multiple parts, which facilitates printing on smaller volume 3D printers and allows the use of different filament colors for a more vibrant and realistic result.

About the Original Monument

The Sanctuary of Cristo Rei was inaugurated on May 17, 1959, in fulfillment of a vow made by the Portuguese episcopate to thank Portugal for being spared from participation in World War II. The imposing structure rises to 110 meters in height, with the Christ statue being 28 meters tall and the pedestal 82 meters. The pedestal, designed by architect António Lino, is a truncated pyramidal structure with four pillars representing the cardinal points, while the statue was sculpted by Francisco Franco de Sousa .

3D Printing Tips

To achieve the best results with this multi-part model, consider the following tips:

•Material: PLA is an excellent choice for this type of model due to its ease of printing and good finish.

•Supports: The Christ statue may require supports, especially on the arms. The pedestal generally requires fewer supports.

•Orientation: Orient the parts on your build plate to minimize the need for supports and improve surface quality.

•Layer Adhesion: Ensure that the first layer is well adhered to prevent warping.

•Assembly: The parts are designed to fit precisely. A little fine sandpaper or glue may be needed to permanently fix the pieces.

Assembly

The parts should be assembled in the following order:

1.Pedestal base.

2.Main body of the pedestal.

3.Balustrade.

4.Christ statue.

We recommend testing the fit of the parts before applying any adhesive. Use super glue or plastic glue if you want a permanent assembly.
