Description

This is a Steam Machine-inspired enclosure designed to house a Mac mini (M4 generation). The goal of the project was to recreate the proportions and design language of Valve’s prototype Steam Machine while adapting the internal layout to fit a Mac mini.

The design follows the geometry of the original Steam Machine as closely as possible while accounting for the Mac mini’s I/O layout. The rear ventilation grill was slightly repositioned to align with the Mac mini ports while preserving the overall aesthetic.

Design Features

  • Magnet-mounted front face plate allowing interchangeable decorative panels
  • Ventilation grill pattern inspired by Valve’s prototype design
  • Internal fitment for Mac mini (M4) with port clearance
  • Optional LED strip integration for ambient lighting or power indication
  • Front port openings matching the Steam Machine design
  • 3.5 mm jack passthrough hole of the back for optional audio extension

Assembly Notes

The bottom section of the enclosure is not the most optimized part of the design and definitely needs improvement or better a re-design, but the rest of the model should serve as a solid starting point for further modifications or custom versions.

The case assembles with M2 screws and heat-set inserts, while the front plate attaches with magnets.
Some of the insert holes are intentionally tight and may require slight adjustment or drilling depending on printer tolerances. This helps keep the inserts secure once heat-set but may require minor post-processing.

The enclosure includes space for an LED strip that can be used for ambient lighting or as a power indicator.
