while this is probably the safest of all the safety cutters on here, I can fight my large adult male fingers in there so it's still technically not "safe".

Good to hear! One thing to consider would be a different kind of blade, such as replacement scapel blades, since they are smaller (not quite as cheap as regular utility blades though!)
