Foldable Pocket Comb with Magnetic Assist

I present my original design – a foldable pocket comb with magnetic opening assist and a liner lock mechanism.

I’m a beginner hobbyist and I don’t make money from this. This is my 6th complete project.

What makes it special?

  • 🧳 Compact size – fits easily in a pocket, bag or waist pack
  • 🪮 Large comb with dense teeth – high efficiency despite small size
  • 💪 Rigid construction – does not bend during use
  • 🧲 Magnetic opening assist – quick and satisfying action, just press the flipper firmly
  • 🧲 Magnets also prevent accidental opening in your pocket or bag
  • ✋ Ergonomic shape – comfortable grip
  • 🔒 Liner lock mechanism – safe and convenient to use

🧩 Required parts (no AMS, no glue needed)

  • 4× neodymium magnets 5×2 mm (opening assist mechanism)
  • 2× screws M3 × 6 mm (pivot axis)
  • 2× screws M2 × 4 mm (clip)
  • 6× screws M2 × 6 mm (handle scales)

🛠️ Assembly tips

  • The lock should be pressed firmly into the trapezoidal slot in the scale
  • Magnets are best inserted using something hard (e.g. screwdriver handle)
  • ⚠️ Important – magnet polarity:
    magnets in the comb must repel those in the handle
  • It is recommended to add a drop of light oil (e.g. mineral/vaseline oil) to the pivot

 🖨️ Printing recommendations

  • No AMS version
    • Plate 1 and 2: PLA (better layer adhesion and smoother pivot movement)
    • Plate 3 and 4: PETG (better moisture/chemical resistance, longer lifespan of flexible parts)
  • AMS version
    • Plate 1: PLA (better layer adhesion and smoother pivot movement)
    • Plate 2: PETG (better moisture/chemical resistance, longer lifespan of flexible parts)
