Description

This is a reinforced Z-bracket for solar panel mounting, redesigned specifically for 3D printing in PA6 (Nylon) with increased wall thickness (4 mm) for improved strength and durability.

The geometry is based on a typical aluminium solar mounting bracket but adjusted to better suit FDM printing and real-world load distribution.

Ideal for:

  • DIY solar installations
  • Off-grid / garden setups
  • Prototyping mounting systems
  • Lightweight panel mounting where metal fabrication isn’t available

⚙️ Key Features

  • 4 mm thick walls → nearly 2× material compared to standard 2 mm designs
  • Optimised for Nylon (PA6 / PA6-CF)
  • Improved layer strength potential when printed correctly
  • Compact & strong Z-profile geometry
  • Designed to be used in sets of 4 brackets per panel

🧱 Recommended Print Settings

For best results:

  • Material: PA6, PA6-CF (recommended), or ASA-CF
  • Nozzle: 0.4–0.6 mm
  • Walls: 4–6 perimeters
  • Infill: 40–60% (Gyroid or Cubic)
  • Layer height: 0.2–0.28 mm
  • Orientation:
Print so that layer lines run perpendicular to the main load direction
    (very important for strength)

🔩 Assembly Tips

  • Always use large washers to distribute the load
  • Do not overtighten (nylon can deform under compression)
  • Use at least 4 brackets per panel
  • Mount to a solid structure (wood beam, metal frame, etc.)

⚠️ Disclaimer

This is a 3D printed structural part.

  • Not equivalent to aluminium in stiffness or long-term durability
  • May deform under heat, UV exposure, or constant load
  • Use at your own risk, especially for outdoor installations
  • Always test under your specific conditions before permanent use

📦 Use Case Notes

Tested conceptually for loads around:

  • ~25 kg total panel weight (when using 4 brackets)

However:

  • Wind load and mounting geometry can significantly increase forces
  • For critical or permanent installations, metal brackets are recommended

🧠 Why this version?

Standard solar brackets are designed for metal.
This version adapts the design to:

  • increase thickness
  • better suited to FDM printing
  • reduce weak points caused by layer lines
