V-Twin Air Engine — MK5

Description
V-Twin Air Engine — MK5
Bring smooth, watchable motion to your desk with this pneumatic V-twin air
engine, designed for 3D printing and powered by compressed air. MK5 refines the
running character of the design with a balanced crankshaft so the assembly turns
more evenly and feels more satisfying to run and to show off.
It powers easily for demos: a balloon or an electric air duster is plenty for
many tabletop runs; you can also use regulated low-pressure compressed air.
Whether you are building a display model, teaching how sliders and valves work,
or expanding toward a larger multi-bank layout, this release is tuned for
reliable assembly and a clear mechanical story.
What you get
* A complete V-twin air engine package sized for typical FDM printers (e.g.
compact beds like the Bambu A1 mini).
* MK5 updates include a balanced crankshaft for smoother rotation under air
pressure.
* Modular options: the connecting wheel and base frame are optional—omit or swap
them if you are planning a different layout (for example a future V4 build).
* Tuned proportions: piston rod geometry uses a controlled Z-scale (45.5%) so
motion and clearance stay coherent in the printed mechanism.
* Lineage: evolved from earlier versions; MK4 used 15 mm bore cylinders at 70%
scale—MK5 carries the lessons forward into this configuration.
Printing and assembly notes
* Use the supplied 3MF/plate layouts where provided; orient parts for strength
along load directions (pins, rods, crank).
* Dry-fit before final assembly; light sanding or reaming may be needed
depending on filament and slicer settings.
* For air source, a balloon or electric air duster is an easy fit; regulated
compressed air works too. Start at modest pressure and increase only if motion
is smooth and nothing binds.
Perfect for
* Makers who want a kinetic desk piece driven by air, not batteries.
* Anyone teaching or demonstrating valves, pistons, and crank timing in a
compact V-twin layout.
* Builders thinking ahead to multi-bank engines thanks to optional frame and
wheel parts.
