Description

Do you have a bent rim? Maybe you want to see your build in your living room?

For me its the prior, and rims are too expensive for me to throw away directly. Thus, I turned it into a coffee table for less than 30$.

To make this happen, you need

  1. A chair base from IKEA. I use the SIBBEN Jr chair frame as i dont want my coffee table rotating too much. If you want the wheel rotating smoothly, you can use MALSKAR instead.
  2. 4 pairs of bolts and nuts with head OD > 10mm but shaft OD < 10mm. I use M8, but M6-M9 should all be fine. 
  3. A glass top of your preferred size. 
  4. Some interface material between the rim and the glass top. I use thick, transparent double sided tape.

What I did:

  1. The chair bases have 4 mounting points. This model adapts those four mounting points into whatever pattern your rim has. Mine is 5x112, but I also included 5x114 and 5x120. Feel free to let me know what you use.  
  2. Plastic “lug bolts” are included with filleted base for strength. These bolts are set to 16mm to fit most rim's relatively flush and prevent wobble.
  3. The chair base has about 3 degrees angle. This model accounts for that so the adapted rim sits flat and (more or less) centered.
     

Features:

Load baring: Designed with load in mind. 

Strong: Fillet is added where lug bolts and feet touch the base so they are stronger.
Flexible: Chair base rotates and telescopes so it fits whatever sofa you have

Caution: 

  1. Measure the lug nut hole of your rim. It need to be at least 16mm. I am happy to modify this number if people prefer. 
  2. I didn't want to split this part into two due to strength and stability concerns. Due to the unique geometry, about 40g of support material is used. Luckily, removing should be easy, as the base is largely flat.
