Description

I designed this insert for the Arkham Horror LCG Second Chapter box with a focus on organization and faster setup.

I’ve designed several inserts for card-heavy games over time and picked up a lot of feedback along the way. This version reflects those improvements and aims to better match what dedicated card players expect.

Key Features

  • Fits sleeved cards (tested with Matte Dragon Shields; see photos)
  • Token trays with rounded bottom corners for easier pickup
  • Closed-lid card and token trays with snap-fit lids for vertical storage
  • Labelled lids for easy organization of tokens and cards
  • Extra Dice tray and Extension box for future and custom content
  • Separators for investigators, scenarios, and encounters
  • Extra spacers to fill gaps and keep cards neatly packed
  • Custom Spacer to help keep your cards in place.

Boost Me (for free)

If you end up using it or find it useful, I’d really appreciate a boost. It directly helps cover filament and materials, and lets me keep working on new designs and improvements.

Alternate Files

An alternate token tray with a wooden crate exterior is also included. It’s optional and provided as-is. If you choose to print it, higher detail settings help the look (0.12 mm layer height worked well for me). Note that I drybrushed my crates with earthy tones to make the patterns pop out.

Alternative files are available for those without an AMS. For best results, print these with the labels facing the print bed.

The layout stays compact while making setup and teardown quicker at the table.

Alternative Files for boxes:

If you use Dragon Shield Matte sleeves and are concerned that the cards need to lean a bit in the box, there are three solutions that are available for you:

The "Quick and Easy" option:
A new part called “Wedge” can be printed to support your cards at the proper angle inside the box. This removes pressure from the cards while keeping the original setup. Print two per box.

The "Yeah but..." option:
File: “Cards - Sleeved - Box - Adjusted Height”
This allows cards to stand fully upright and still use the same lids. However, the boxes become taller, so you’ll also need to print two "Levelling Plate -Adjusted Height” and place them at the bottom under the Token and Expansion boxes.
Trade-off: this removes almost all space for manuals. You’ll need to store them outside or accept lid lift.

The "Something in between" option:
File: “Cards - Sleeved - No Lid”
This is a lidless frame that allows upright cards while keeping space for manuals. Since there’s no lid, cards are less secure if the box is stored vertically.
A "Levelling Plate - Grid Box” is also available and used the same way, though it only adds 0.6 mm. Optional unless you want everything perfectly flush.

My Dragon Shield clear matte sleeves do fit, but unfortunately make it too big to allow the lid to be used. Otherwise I really like the boxes. Looking forward to trying out the new spacers.

I am getting similar feedback from people who would like to keep the cards standing up straight and not have them leaning in the box. I have an idea or two on an alternate box that won’t force people to do that. Also I’m thinking of making a wedge type piece that can let your cards rest slanted (for the current model) I’ll keep you posted.

One thing I should add. Even without the insert, the separators that came with the core because x will not fit standing up straight. We can look at a lidless alternative for the cards but there is no physical space to go around the issue of the separators.

Hi I'm printing your work as we speak, thank you for the great design. I'm a little bit concerned regarding the dividers not fitting properly when standing up straight from what I'm reading in the commends. Have you figured out a way around this yet? perhaps lower dividers overall? Thanks in advance.

great Design, I love it. I chose black and green and it looks amazing! (only a small bit to complain: the die is not correct, because it shows 3 and 4, which should be opposite.)

Fantastic. With a few additions of mine. If you are curios about the player dashboard, you can find it here https://makerworld.com/en/models/2811963-arkham-horror-player-dashboard#profileId-3130025

This is great, thanks for making it! The description mentions separators and spacers, but I'm not seeing them. When I open the file, I get 7 plates: 6 for boxes and lids and 1 for the alternate wood box. Please add those, as they'd be helpful!

Wow, you are absolutely right! I forgot to add those items! Thanks for the heads up. I just updated the print profiles to include both AMS and no-AMS versions. I'll need a bit more time for the actual dividers, but they will be up by this evening. I will let you know once that is up as well.

And... Done! I added 5 models of separators: Cthulhu - With AMS Cthulhu - Variant B - With AMS Campaign - With AMS Cthulhu - No AMS (punch through) Campaign - No AMS (punch through) The later ones are the fastest to print out, but if you want to be fancy, you will know what to do. I honestly forgot to finish these and posted the project without realizing it. My apologies for the delay. Please note that I tested the sizes, and they fit perfectly in the card boxes. The profiles and the files have been updated accordingly.

Thanks so much! I look forward to printing them! If I may be so bold to make a request... could you make a version of the token box lid with the Cthulhu head image used on other lids?

Thank you so much for these great inserts. Like the previous commenter, I have a request: Could you please make the boxes a few millimeters taller? That way, all the cards will fit upright even when laid on their sides, the lids won’t pop open, and we can use the lids. I’d be extremely grateful.

I haven't played yet as I just got the game. I have the original base 1-2 player version. Is this something different?

Yeah it's a different box. This is them kicking off their second chapter in the lore. If you have the original, then yes there would be some difference, but everything you have should be compatible. Think of this as a new and revised core set. A lot of the cards are the same if I understand correctly, but there are different investigators and the included campaign is different.

I love the design and the "clicking" tactile feel when closing the lids

what's the purpose of the extension box and lid? it's too small to fit cards

It's a general-purpose box. Extra / Weird custom components you added? Future expansions come up with a new set of tokens? Place to store your miniature Cthulhu idol (https://makerworld.com/en/models/1759184-cthulhu-idol-ancient-marble-relic?from=search#profileId-1871200)? Games, especially popular ones like this one, tend to grow in ways we can't always predict. I started adding extra room whenever possible in inserts I make for just that. With any luck, this extra box will be good enough for whatever the future may have in store of the game. If not, we can move things around (we will see when the time comes).
