Description

Boost Me (for free)

If you share my wife's taste in... compost bins, and printed this model, consider giving me a boost!
They are super mega appreciated! THANK YOU!

This modern countertop compost bin combines clean aesthetics with everyday functionality. Designed for style-conscious kitchens, it features:

  • Classy design
  • No bags showing, we wanted it to look nice to keep it on our countertops
  • A self-aligning flat lid that's easy to wash
  • Compact no-waste footprint that fits neatly beside sinks or windows

Perfect for storing organic scraps like vegetable peels, coffee grounds, and eggshells, this bin is ideal for eco-friendly households that value both form and function. The model includes a removable lid and smooth interior for easy cleaning.

Whether you're staging a kitchen scene or printing a practical compost solution, this bin adds a touch of elegance to any space.

The ring has notches to allow for some play for different size bags to wrinkle on the side and for added rigidity.
The ring has notches to allow for some play for different size bags to wrinkle on the side and for added rigidity.
Resting notches are printed at a small angle not to use supports and for easy cleaning

HOW TO USE

Put the bag inside the bag ring, then roll it above and outside of it.
Put the bag+ring fully inside the container, resting on the notches. There is play and a bit of space for the bag on all sides.
When it is time to empty it, simply pull it out.

PRINT NOTES

Supports are only required for the lid plates.

I printed the lid at a 30 degree angle in my P1S without much difficulty, I am however aware that this might be advanced for some people or printers, here are a few tips!

  • Wash your plate toroughly with dawn dish soap and scalding hot water, I dont see this recommended enough, really hot water helps dispose of anything that might be left after you scrubb your plate with soap.
  • For non core-XY printers (A1 & Others) consider either of those:
    • Printing the lid laying flat, the finish will be less nice, with
    • Printing the alternative plate with no handle upside down and putting in an aftermarket handle, a little wooden handle on top of that would be super chic!
  • A1 Mini : If you shring everything in all directions, tolerances should be pretty good, maybe the ring should be shrunk a bit more than the rest. Feel free to upload as a print profile with real images if you do!

i didnt want to upload a bunch of profiles and make it confusing for nothing, but the lid could even be printed upside down, with a negative cylinder added in the middle to add your own little cute knob !

Fantastic print. Replaced my Simple Human compost caddy that has failed on the hinge twice. Used ELEGOO pla in black which came out great. Only suggestion would be an internal caddy thst you could print in Petg to keep the liquids from potentially damaging the outer pla.

Random fact : The black PLA basic in the pictures was initially intended to be used as a prototype because I have a lot of it... but we ended up liking it a lot, complimenting our kitchen handles. I cant wait to see what colors people might use :D

I found the same with Elegoo black PLA. Got it cheap and loved how smooth and matte it came out, so I buy it by the 10 pack now and use it all the time.

Yup pretty similar thing here, whenever I need colors, I end up adding-in black/white to get to the next rebate tier! Thanks for the boost!

great design, however the print uses a lot of filament, a lot of which has to be removed afterwards (in between all of the external ridges) which isn’t ideal.

There should not be supports for the main container, only the lid if printed at an angle.

Thank you for the design. The lid was a bit tricky but with patience and perseverance it works. In the print profile, the supports for the body are activated ;) Great thing. Thank you

Is the main container supposed to be printed with or without supports?

The container/bin should not require supports. If you're printing on an A1, I'd slow your speed down once you're about halfway thru, since it's a bit of mass being printed and shaking it might make it more prone to un-sticking from the bed and warping. The lid will require supports wether you're printing at an angle or flat. printing at an angle is just for a nicer (and that's even subjective) finish.
