Silica Gel Drying Spool for AMS HT / AMS 2 PRO
Print Profile(2)

Description
Do you have wet silica gel and don’t want to dry it in the oven where food is prepared?
Used silica gel may contain dust, plastic particles, or other contaminants, so drying it in kitchen equipment is not a good idea.
This spool was designed to solve that problem.
It allows you to safely dry silica gel inside a filament dryer, without spilling granules and without using an oven.
The spool can be used in BambuLab AMS HT, AMS 2 Pro, and other filament dryers from different manufacturers.
The design provides good hot air flow, secure locking, and easy filling, while keeping the silica gel contained during drying.
Spool capacity is about 600 g of silica gel.
Key features
- Two-part twist-and-lock construction
The spool consists of two main parts that connect using a twist and lock mechanism.
After assembly, safety pins can be inserted to prevent the spool from opening during drying. - Fill / empty port
The spool has a dedicated opening, so you can fill or empty silica gel
without disassembling the whole spool. - Filling funnel included
Makes it easy to pour silica gel inside without spilling. - Emptying funnel for bottles
The emptying funnel fits common bottle openings,
so dried silica gel can be stored in airtight containers. - Twist-and-lock cap
The cap uses the same twist and lock mechanism to keep the opening closed
and prevent silica gel from falling out during drying. - Optimized airflow design
The shape and hole pattern allow hot air to reach the center of the spool,
which improves drying performance. - Granule-safe holes
Ventilation holes allow airflow but prevent granules larger than 1 mm from falling out. - Direction markings on the model
Icons on the spool show the correct direction for twisting and opening. - High temperature resistant design
Recommended materials: ABS, ASA, or other heat-resistant filaments. - Compatible with filament dryers
Designed for use with:- BambuLab AMS HT
- BambuLab AMS 2 Pro
- Support-free printing
All parts are designed to print without supports for easier and cleaner printing.
Spool assembly
Take part 1 and part 2 of the spool.
Place them together and rotate to the right about 45° following the icon on the spool. You should hear a click, and the holes in the center opening should align.
- Insert the safety locks into the center holes.
This prevents the spool from opening during drying and avoids spilling silica gel inside the dryer. - The spool is now ready to use.
Filling the spool
- Attach the filling funnel to the opening.
- Pour silica gel inside the spool.
After filling, remove the funnel and install the cap.
The cap uses a twist and lock mechanism. Insert it into the opening and rotate about 45° until you hear a click.
- When locked correctly, the handle will align with the cutouts on the spool.
Emptying after drying
- Remove the cap.
Attach the emptying funnel.
The funnel fits common bottles, so the dried silica gel can be transferred quickly and stored in an airtight container.
Drying test and temperature recommendation
During testing, the spool was filled with about 600 g of silica gel.
The spool itself was printed from ABS and dried in BambuLab AMS HT with spool rotation enabled using the ABS drying preset (80 °C).
After about 6 hours, the silica gel was fully dry.
If you print the spool from a different material, make sure to set the drying temperature according to the heat resistance of the filament used.
Using too high temperature may cause the spool to soften or deform during drying.
The internal structure of the spool allows hot air to reach the entire volume of silica gel,
while the hole size is small enough to keep the granules safely inside.
Tips: Adjusting fit if parts are too loose
Depending on printer calibration and filament, the fit between the spool parts may be slightly loose.
You can easily adjust this in Bambu Studio → Precision settings without modifying the model.
- If the two spool parts feel too loose
Use XY Hole Compensation and set it to about -0.05
This makes the center connection tighter. - If the cap / nut feels too loose
Use XY Contour Compensation and set it to about 0.05
This makes the outer thread / lock fit more snug.
Small adjustments may be needed depending on printer and material.
