🐌 Light Snail: The DIY solution for Herrnhuter Stars & Lampshades

The Light Snail is a versatile, 3D-printed light source, specially developed for the even illumination of paper stars (e.g. Herrnhuter) and small lampshades. Thanks to its spiral design, the light is evenly distributed in all directions – without dark spots!

✨ Features

• Individual color choice: Perfectly match the color of the 3D print to your decor (see below)
• 3 lengths available: Choose between 40 mm, 60 mm, and 80 mm, depending on the size of your star or lampshade
• Universal: Compatible with any standard 8 mm LED strip (COB LEDs are recommended for a seamless look!)
• Easy assembly: Innovative screw mechanism that securely clamps the cable
• DIY-Friendly: No soldering necessarily required if you use an LED strip with a connector

🎨 Tip for Color Choice

Since the Light Snail is often used in transparent or light-colored stars, the filament color influences the result:

• White/Natural: Ensures maximum brightness and does not distort the color of the LED strip. Ideal for classic lighting
• Colored: Print the snail in a color that matches your star (e.g. yellow for a yellow star) to make the housing less visible when the light is off

🛠 Assembly Instructions

Assembly is child's play and done in a few minutes:

1. Preparation: Print the desired length of the snail as well as the matching cap and screw fitting (ideally in your chosen color)
2. Fix the cable: Place the cable of your LED strip into the cap. This is simply clipped around the cable
3. Thread: Push the end of the LED strip through the screw fitting and firmly screw it together with the cap. The cable is now strain-relieved and securely fixed
4. Wrap: Peel off the protective film from the self-adhesive LED strip and wrap it evenly along the spiral around the rod
5. Insert: Now you can simply push the finished "Light Snail" into the opening of your star or lampshade. Done!

🖨️ Print Settings (Recommendation)

• Material: PETG or ASA (recommended due to the heat development of the LEDs; PLA usually works for short operating times as well)
• Color choice: White (for maximum light output) or a color matching the star
• Infill: 15%
• Walls: 2
• Support: Not required (the spiral is designed to be printed without support structures)
• Layer height: 0.2mm for a clean fit of the threads
