4-Part Click Frame Generator (Parametric)

This parametric model generates a large picture frame split into 4 printable parts, designed to fit standard build plates while still allowing you to create larger frames.

 

Each part consists of:

  • a backplate
  • a frame wall (side)
  • a front picture overlap (lip)

The four parts connect using integrated connectors and form a rigid square frame when assembled.

⚙️ Parameters (Parametric Model Maker)

You can adjust:

  • Picture width & height
  • Frame border width and height
  • Backplate thickness
  • Picture overlap (front lip)
  • Picture thickness (depth inside the frame)
  • Connector width & length
  • Screw hole diameter

📏 Default Settings

With default values, the generator produces:

  • Frame size: 400 × 400 mm
  • Backplate thickness: 2 mm
  • Frame border: 15 mm wide, 10 mm high
  • Picture overlap: 3 mm
  • Includes mounting holes on the back

🖨️ Printing

  • Designed to print as 4 separate parts
  • Use “Split to Objects” in your slicer.
    Then press “A” or use “Arrange All Objects” to distribute the parts across the build plate(s).
  • No supports required. Minor stray lines may form under the overhang, but these are easy to remove and do not affect the final quality.

Recommended:

  • PLA or PETG
  • 0.2 mm layer height
  • 2 wall loops (tested), increase if extra strength is needed

🔧 Assembly

  • Parts click together using the connectors
  • Can be glued for permanent rigidity (optional)

💡 Notes

  • By increasing the frame depth, you can use it as a shadow box
  • Connector fit may vary slightly depending on printer tolerances
  • Slight sanding may improve fit if needed
  • Add a small tolerance (0.5–1 mm) to your picture size for easier fitting.
