CO₂ Scrubber for Skimmer – Hang-On Aquarium Reactor (3D Printed)
CO₂ scrubber designed for use with an aquarium skimmer, reducing CO₂ levels in the intake air and improving pH stability in marine and reef aquariums.
This model is designed to be mounted directly on the aquarium, allowing easy installation without taking space in the sump.
The reactor holds CO₂-absorbing media (such as soda lime), which removes CO₂ before air enters the skimmer, helping stabilize pH.
🔧 Installation
1️⃣ Assembly
- Fill the reactor with soda lime.
- Place the sponges on the top and bottom sections.
- Ensure airflow passes correctly through the media.
- Make sure everything is properly sealed.
2️⃣ Installation on the aquarium
- Hang the reactor on the tank edge.
- Connect it to the skimmer air intake.
- Check that air is properly drawn through the reactor.
⚙️ Required components (not included)
For proper operation, the reactor only requires:
- Filter sponge for the bottom section
- Filter sponge for the top section
These sponges prevent fine dust from entering the system, ensuring safe operation.
💡 Recommendation:
Use 20–30 PPI medium-density foam for optimal balance between filtration and airflow.
🧪 Absorbent media usage (soda lime)
The reactor is designed to use soda lime or similar CO₂ absorbing media, which removes CO₂ before it enters the skimmer.
This helps increase and stabilize pH, especially in enclosed environments.
🔄 Maintenance and replacement
Replace soda lime when:
- It changes color (if applicable)
- You notice reduced pH improvement
- After approximately 2–4 weeks, depending on usage
⚠️ Aquarium size, bioload, and room ventilation will affect lifespan.
Regular checks are recommended.
Key Features
- Reduces CO₂ in skimmer air intake
- Improves and stabilizes pH
- Hang-on design, no sump space required
- Compact and easy to maintain
- Ideal for marine and reef aquariums
Designed for 3D printing.
