Drink holder for crutches and other walking aids

Practical solution for securely attaching and carrying drinks on the go

Anyone who has ever had to rely on crutches knows how difficult it is to carry a drink at the same time while moving. Conventional bicycle bottle cages are not an ideal solution, as they are rarely suitable for thermally insulated beverage bottles. In addition, the diameter of a crutch does not correspond to that of a bicycle frame, so assembly often involves a lot of effort.

A perfect fit is crucial, as a loose bottle could compromise crutch handling. To further increase safety, I have integrated a safety clip. This prevents the bottle from falling out if the crutch tips over. Additionally, there is a small hook on the back, allowing other items to be transported in a small bag.

I use the robust and high-quality thermal mugs from Emsa (Travel Mug). It is important that the cup or bottle is leak-proof and break-resistant. Upon request, additional attachments can be added, for example, for mounting a smartphone or a cigarette case. The holder is also suitable not only for crutches but also for a rollator or stroller. A version for golf caddies has already been designed. The system is very variable and can be easily adapted to different bottles or cups. For different dimensions, please feel free to contact me.

Models and Dimensions

To accommodate different pipe diameters, I have designed two models with 20 mm and 22.5 mm diameters. The thermal mugs have a diameter of 80 mm at the top and 67 mm at the bottom. Two test rings allow you to check in advance if the holders fit your cup.

Material Recommendation

I recommend PETG as the material because it is elastic enough to easily withstand falls.

Required Fastening Material

The following parts are required for assembly:

• 4 pieces of M4x25 mm screws
• 4 pieces of M4 nuts.

Assembly Instructions

1. Insert the safety clip (1) onto the support tube as shown in the photo, directly below the handle. This prevents it from sliding further up.
2. Take a screw and attach a nut to it. Insert the nut into both holders from the inside with some pressure, without tools. The tight fit ensures that the nut does not fall out during assembly.
3. Insert the cup into the upper holder (2) and position the holder so that a small gap (approx. 2–3 mm) remains to the safety clip. Screw the holder with the hook clip. This should be attached to the upper holder due to the center of gravity.
4. Then attach the lower holder (3). If your bottle has the same diameter at the top and bottom, the lower holder only differs by the additional base.
