I have designed a new version of my previously popular child safety lock. In Version 2.0, you now have to press two buttons to release the lock, making it a bit more difficult for children to release the lock themselves.
If you have already printed the bolts of the old version, you simply need to reprint the main body, springs, and sliders. The new version is fully compatible with the old bolts.
Description
This child safety lock consists entirely of 3D-printed parts. Only a drop of super glue is needed for assembly.
How it works
To secure, simply slide the round part onto the bolt. The lock engages and reliably secures the door or drawer until it is removed again.
To open, simply press both buttons on the side. The lock can then be easily removed.
Print Plates
- Plate 1: Base elements
- Plate 2: Bolts in various lengths (named after door/drawer thickness in mm). Simply measure the thickness and print the appropriate bolt.
- Plate 3: Three different supports to secure the bolt in any position. Only one is needed (depending on the mounting position).
Assembly
- Place the sliders into the housing.
- Insert the springs.
- Apply a few drops of adhesive to the surfaces where the lid will rest later.
- Mount the lid (the lid is guided through the groove. Some force is required when pressing together, as the springs need to be compressed.)
(see pictures)
The bolt on the cabinet can either be fastened with 2 pieces of 3mm wood screws or simply glued with double-sided tape (in my case, it holds great and can be removed without residue when the children are old enough).
Material Recommendation
- Different filaments can be used for all parts.
- For the spring, PETG is recommended because it is more flexible and durable.
Note
If the lock does not engage correctly, a bolt that is too short was likely chosen.
