Description

Shine-Through Keycaps for Razer Tartarus V2

Custom replacement keycaps for the Razer Tartarus V2 keypad, designed to be printed in clear/transparent PETG for RGB shine-through lettering and icons.

This is a remix of this excellent model by Ümit with modifications to enable backlighting to pass through the legends. When printed in clear PETG, the Tartarus V2's RGB lighting illuminates the icons and text from below, making each key easy to identify even in a dark workspace.

The edits include flipping the model and applying ironing to allow decent print results even with a 0.4 mm nozzle while achieving the shinethrough effect. Base of the key was also strengthened a bit to allow installation without as many breaking. They can be inserted into the keypad slot with some firm and even downward pressure. Depending on your printer tolerances, if they won't go in easily, you can shave or file a bit of material off of the side tabs of the key. Just be sure to go easy or they will come right back out too easily if too much material is removed.

The keycap legends shown in the photos are customized for a radiology reading room workflow, but the model can be adapted to any use case. My layout includes shortcut labels for reporting tools, study navigation, dictation control, and common exam templates. The icon version can be changed by replacing the svg with your own (right click svg on model or in Objects Process settings view and select “Edit SVG”. The text version can be edited in the same way by selecting “Edit text”. Some fonts work better than others for end results that are readable. Smaller font sizes and/or more characters fit onto the surface decrease end result quality.

Print Settings:

  • Material: Clear/transparent PETG (required for shine-through effect). I did try with clear and black PLA with poorer results.
  • Tested on a stock Razer Tartarus V2 (Not pro). Could work on other Mecha-Membrane type keyboards but has not been tested.
