MK7 Golf R Center Console Unlock Access Clips
Print Profile(1)

Description
I've designed these clips to unlock the center armrest storage on the 2015–2016 Volkswagen Golf R (MK7) as well as some early 2017 Golf R models that shipped with the armrest locked closed from the factory. The clips act as small wedges that prevent the armrest hinge legs from engaging the internal ratcheting gear, allowing the center console lid to open normally and giving access to the storage compartment. Installation is simple and reversible: open the armrest cover from the back seats, remove the two factory hinge screws with a 4 mm Allen key, place one clip on each side of the hinge mechanism as shown in the photos, and reinstall the screws to hold the clips in place (An example of the install can be seen here).
Once installed, the armrest will open freely, but the height-adjustment ratcheting feature will no longer engage. I recommend printing in PETG, although PLA has worked fine for me so far. I also recommend adding a little bit of grease to the tops of the wedges to allow the compartment lid to close smoothly.
