Description

This protective travel case is designed for the ONYX BOOX Note Max 13.3 with the original cover installed (without keyboard). It adds an extra layer of protection when carrying the tablet in a backpack, where pressure from other hard objects or accidental impacts during travel can be risky for a large and relatively fragile e-ink device.
The mane case covers the tablet fully across its width and about 85% of its height, providing solid protection while still making it easy to insert and remove the device. Hovewer if you want extra protection, you can also print a small (41mm height) top cover, which completes the full cover of the tablet.

Features:

  • Designed for ONYX BOOX Note Max 13.3
  • Intended for use with the original non-keyboard cover
  • Extra protection for backpack transport and daily commuting
  • Easy in/out design with good coverage and rigid support
  • 2-part construction: base + cap
  • Includes 3 cap tolerance versions: +5%, 0%, -5%
  • Includes 5 base versions with different internal compartment height: "Slim fit" (11mm), "Regular fit"(12mm), "Relaxed fit"(13mm), "Felt 2mm fit" (16mm), "Felt 4mm fit" (20mm)
  • Includes a calibration test set to help choose the best-fitting cap for your printer and check the elephant foot.
  • The cap is designed for a snug friction fit, but you may consider applying a bit of superglue to make the final assembly solid.

Printing Notes:

  • PLA is recommended for better rigidity and lower warping risk, however, I would recommend that you increase the bed temperature by at least 5 degrees from your regular settings. Also, applying a bit of 3D-print glue on the heat bed corners would be a good precaution measure against warping
  • To avoid scratching the tablet cover by the printed surface (it's obviously not perfectly smooth), I applied clear "scotch" tape over the inner flat surfaces before final assembly (it could be a solution for Slim, Regular, and Relaxed fit body versions). But if you have thin sticky felt paper, you might get an even better experience, however, be aware that felt has some thickness, so choose "Felt 2mm fit" or "Felt 4mm fit" versions based on your felt thickness. My personal choice was Regular fit + clear "scotch" tape, because I do not have felt.
  • When you evaluate calibration test models, check for an elephant foot at the first layer. If you have it, make a correction in the slicer settings (Quality->Precision->elephant foot compensation). In my case i used 0.3-0.4mm
  • Do not forget to toggle ON the Auto Bed Calibration when you sending model for print, because the model cover full heat bed surface, and it is important to have a calibrated bed.

This case is a practical solution for anyone who wants to keep their BOOX Note Max safer during travel.

Happy printing — and keep your BOOX protected on the go!

P.S. If you are looking for a solution to reduce 3D printer noise, have a look on my soundproof enclosure design crafted from IKEA furniture. This enclosure reduces printer noise and ensures impressive 36.5 dB(A) at just 1 meter away. Detailed instruction how to build it you may find here
